Tangier ➔ Tetouan ➔ Chefchaouen

Your Morocco travel adventure begins when your private driver collects you from your hotel, the airport, or the ferry port in Tangier. We will start our journey by driving through the beautiful green hills of northern Morocco. Along the way, we pass near the pretty white city of Tetouan, enjoying the peaceful views of the Mediterranean landscape before heading higher into the Rif Mountains.

By the afternoon, we arrive in the famous blue city of Chefchaouen. This quiet mountain town is painted entirely in beautiful shades of bright blue and white. You will have free time to walk through the clean streets, take amazing colorful photos, and enjoy a fresh cup of mint tea in the main square. You will spend your first night in a lovely local riad right inside the old blue medina.

Day 2

Chefchaouen ➔ Volubilis ➔ Meknes ➔ Fes

After a fresh mountain breakfast, you can enjoy a quiet morning walk through the blue lanes of Chefchaouen to buy handmade crafts. We then get back on the road and drive south toward the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis. This is a wonderfully preserved historical site where you can walk through giant stone gates and see beautiful old floor art that has survived for thousands of years.

Next, we take a short drive to the royal city of Meknes to see the massive Bab Mansour gate and other historic buildings. We continue our journey to the ancient city of Fes, which is the spiritual heart of Morocco. When we arrive in the afternoon, you will check into a beautiful traditional riad hidden inside the old city walls. You have the rest of the evening to relax, taste a delicious local tagine, and rest.

Day 3

Fes City Sightseeing

In the morning, a friendly local guide will meet you at your riad for an exciting walking tour of Fes. You will explore the oldest working medina in the world, which is a giant maze of narrow streets full of life and history. You will see the famous leather tanneries, historic Islamic schools, and busy traditional markets where people sell beautiful handmade goods.

After a tasty local lunch in the old city, you will continue your guided walk to see incredible mosques and detailed palace gates. You will learn about the deep culture and traditions of the city. By the end of the afternoon, your guide will bring you back to your peaceful riad so you can relax and prepare for the desert journey tomorrow.

Day 4

Fes ➔ Ifrane ➔ Azrou ➔ Midelt ➔ Merzouga

We will leave Fes early in the morning and head south towards the Middle Atlas Mountains. Our first stop is the clean town of Ifrane, often called the ‘Switzerland of Morocco’ because of its alpine architecture. Just a short drive away is the cedar forest of Azrou, where you can walk amongst giant trees and feed the friendly wild Barbary macaque monkeys.

We will then stop for a lovely lunch in the peaceful mountain town of Midelt. The landscape will change completely today as we leave the high mountains behind and travel down into the warm desert region. En route, we will stop at the magnificent Ziz Valley, a vast green oasis with thousands of tall palm trees growing within a deep river canyon.

We will then drive through the fossil town of Erfoud until we finally reach the giant golden sand dunes of Erg Chebbi in Merzouga. A team of local desert guides will be waiting for you with camels. You will ride your camel over the open dunes as the sun sets and paints the sky with beautiful colours. You will then arrive at a luxury desert camp, where you can enjoy a traditional dinner and listen to Berber drum music around the campfire before sleeping in a comfortable private tent.

Day 5

Sahara Desert Exploration ➔ Nomad Visit ➔ Khamlia

Your camp hosts will wake you up early so that you can enjoy the breathtaking sight of the desert sunrise from the top of a high dune. After enjoying a warm shower and a hearty breakfast at the camp, you will meet your driver and set off on an exciting day of exploring the vast expanse of the Sahara Desert in a comfortable four-wheel-drive vehicle.

We will leave paved roads behind to travel across wild desert landscapes. Our first stop is with a traditional nomadic family living in a tent made from woven goat hair. You will sit with them, share a cup of hot mint tea, and learn how they live and travel in this vast desert environment. Next, we will explore an old mining area where local people used to work many years ago. We then travel to the small village of Khamlia for lunch, where the locals are famous for their unique Gnawa music.

You will enjoy a private performance full of deep drumbeats and spiritual dancing while eating a traditional desert pizza. During your time in the desert, you will also experience the beautiful traditional Ahidous dance, performed proudly in two straight lines, one for men and one for women. In the afternoon, you can check into a beautiful hotel next to the dunes, where you can swim in the pool and relax.

Day 6

Merzouga ➔ Todra Gorge ➔ Dades Valley

After breakfast at your hotel, we will say goodbye to the Sahara dunes and drive straight towards the spectacular Todra Gorge. This massive natural canyon features perfectly straight red stone cliffs that reach hundreds of metres into the air, with a cool mountain river flowing along the bottom.

You will have plenty of free time to safely walk along the riverbank, enjoy the fresh air, and take amazing photos. It is a very peaceful and beautiful place to explore on foot. After enjoying a nice lunch near the canyon, we will continue our journey to the lush Dades Valley.

The route takes us past incredible rock formations that resemble giant fingers and are known locally as ‘monkey fingers’. We will arrive at our lovely hotel in the valley just in time for a warm dinner and a peaceful night’s sleep surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery.

Day 7

Dades Valley ➔ Ouarzazate ➔ Ait Ben Haddou ➔ Marrakech

On our final day, we drive through the beautiful Valley of the Roses, where millions of pink roses are harvested every spring to make rosewater and beauty creams. We then follow the famous Road of a Thousand Kasbahs to Ouarzazate, known as the ‘Hollywood of Africa’, where we visit the large film studios used for international movies.

The ultimate highlight of the day is just outside the city: the ancient Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. This giant mud-brick fortress village, which is protected by UNESCO, sits beautifully on the side of a hill. After exploring its narrow streets and enjoying a delicious lunch, we set off on our magnificent drive over the High Atlas Mountains. We will carefully make our way up the winding roads of the Tizi N’Tichka pass. By early evening, we will arrive in the vibrant city of Marrakech and drop you off safely at your hotel.
