Day 1
Casablanca ➔ Rabat ➔ Fes
Your Morocco travel adventure begins in the morning when your driver will collect you from your hotel or Casablanca Airport. Our first stop is the famous Hassan II Mosque. One of the world’s largest mosques, it boasts a magnificent minaret and stunning traditional tiling, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. After taking photos of this amazing building, we will drive north along the coast to Rabat, the capital city.
Here, we will explore the historic Hassan Tower and the beautiful marble tombs of the royal family. We will also take a peaceful walk through the beautiful fortified neighbourhood of the Oudayas Kasbah, with its immaculate blue-and-whitewashed walls overlooking the ocean. After enjoying a delicious local lunch by the water, we will leave the coast behind and drive inland through green plains towards the spiritual heart of the country.
By late afternoon, we will arrive in the ancient city of Fes. You will check into a beautiful, traditional riad hidden inside the old city walls. You will then have the rest of the evening to relax and enjoy some fresh mint tea, before experiencing your first wonderful dinner in Fes.
Day 2
Fes ➔ Ifrane ➔ Azrou ➔ Midelt ➔ Merzouga
We set off from Fez early in the morning, heading south towards the Middle Atlas Mountains. Our first stop was the charming town of Ifrane, which resembles a quaint Swiss village thanks to its clean, alpine-style architecture and cool climate. Next, we drove into the ancient cedar forests of Azrou, where we walked amongst giant trees and fed the friendly wild Barbary macaque monkeys.
After spending time in the forest, we travel higher into the mountains and stop for a delicious lunch in Midelt, a town renowned for its apple orchards. In the afternoon, the scenery changes dramatically as we drive through the spectacular Ziz Valley. You will see a vast green oasis with thousands of tall palm trees stretching through a deep, rocky canyon — the perfect place for panoramic photos.
In the late afternoon, we will arrive at the edge of the Sahara Desert in Merzouga. Your local desert guides will be waiting for you with camels. You will enjoy a peaceful camel ride across the golden sand dunes of Erg Chebbi as the sun sets. Finally, you will reach your luxury desert camp, where you can enjoy a traditional dinner accompanied by the sound of Berber drums.
Day 3
Sahara Desert Exploration ➔ Nomad Visit ➔ Khamlia
Your camp hosts will wake you up early so you can witness a breathtaking desert sunrise from the top of a high sand dune. After a warm shower and a rich breakfast at the camp, you will meet your driver for an exciting day of exploring the deep Sahara Desert in a comfortable four wheel drive vehicle. We leave the paved roads behind to travel across wild desert landscapes.
Our first visit is to a traditional nomad family living in a rustic tent made from woven goat hair. You will sit with them, share a cup of hot mint tea, and learn how they live and travel in this vast desert environment. Next, we explore an old mineral mine area where local people used to work many years ago.
For lunch, we travel to the small village of Khamlia, where the local people are famous for their unique Gnawa music. You will enjoy a private performance full of deep drum beats and spiritual dancing while eating a traditional desert pizza. During your time in the desert, you might also experience the beautiful Ahidous dance, which is performed in two straight lines, one for men and one for women. In the afternoon, we check into a beautiful hotel next to the dunes where you can swim in the pool and relax.
Day 4
Merzouga ➔ Rissani ➔ Todra Gorge ➔ Dades Valley
After breakfast at your hotel, we will say goodbye to the Sahara dunes and drive to the traditional town of Rissani. This town boasts the largest and most authentic market in the desert region. We will take a short walk through the bustling market, where you can watch local people trading fresh spices, sweet dates, colourful clothing and handmade crafts.
We will then continue our drive towards the spectacular Todra Gorge. This massive natural canyon features straight red stone cliffs that reach hundreds of metres into the air, with a cool mountain river flowing along the bottom. You will have plenty of free time to safely walk along the riverbank, enjoy the fresh air and take amazing photos of the giant walls.
After enjoying a nice lunch near the canyon, we will continue our journey to the lush Dades Valley. The route will take us past some amazing rock formations that resemble giant fingers. We arrive at our lovely hotel in the valley just in time for a warm dinner and a peaceful night’s sleep surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery.
Day 5
Dades Valley ➔ Ouarzazate ➔ Ait Ben Haddou ➔ Marrakech
On our final day, we drive through the beautiful Valley of the Roses, where millions of pink roses are harvested every spring to make natural rose water and beauty products. We then follow the famous Road of a Thousand Kasbahs to Ouarzazate, known as the ‘Hollywood of Africa’, where we visit the large film studios used for international movies.
The ultimate highlight of the day comes just outside the city in the form of the ancient Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. This giant mud-brick fortress village, which is protected by UNESCO, sits beautifully on the side of a hill. You will walk through its narrow, historic lanes and climb to the very top to enjoy incredible views of the river and valley below.
After enjoying a delicious lunch near the kasbah, we set off on our spectacular drive over the High Atlas Mountains. We will travel carefully up the winding roads of the Tizi N’Tichka Pass, the highest paved road in Morocco. You will see stunning green valleys and tiny stone villages built into the cliffs. Early evening sees us arrive in the vibrant city of Marrakech, where we will drop you off at your hotel, bringing your tour to a close.
