Day 1
Fes ➔ Ifrane ➔ Azrou ➔ Midelt ➔ Merzouga
Our journey begins early in the morning with a pick-up from your hotel in Fes. Our first stop is the beautiful town of Ifrane, often referred to as the ‘Switzerland of Morocco’ thanks to its clean streets and alpine-style houses. From there, we will drive a short distance to the famous cedar forests of Azrou.
Here, you can enjoy a peaceful walk among the tall trees and feed the friendly wild monkeys that inhabit the forest. After enjoying the fresh mountain air, we will continue our drive south towards Midelt, where we will stop for a delicious local lunch. In the afternoon, the scenery changes completely as we enter the stunning Ziz Valley. You will see thousands of tall, green palm trees alongside the river, surrounded by dry mountains.
We will stop to take some amazing panoramic photos of this vast natural oasis. In the late afternoon, we will arrive at the edge of the Sahara Desert in Merzouga. A team of local guides will be waiting for you with camels. You will ride your camel across the giant golden sand dunes as the sun sets, creating a magical display of colours in the sky. Finally, you will reach your luxury desert camp, where you can enjoy a traditional dinner and listen to Berber drum music around the campfire, before sleeping in your comfortable private tent.
Day 2
Merzouga ➔ Khamlia ➔ Nomad Visit ➔ Erg Chebbi
Your camp hosts will wake you up early so that you can climb the nearest high sand dune and enjoy the spectacular desert sunrise. After enjoying a warm shower and a hearty breakfast at the camp, you will meet your driver and set off on an exciting day of exploring the deep desert in a robust four-wheel-drive vehicle. We will leave the main roads behind and drive safely across the open sands.
Our first stop is with a nomadic family who live in a traditional tent woven from goat hair. You will sit with them, drink fresh mint tea and learn how they survive and travel in such a dry, wild place. Next, we will visit an old French mining area where minerals and natural eye makeup used to be extracted.
We then head to the small village of Khamlia for lunch. Its inhabitants originally came from southern Africa, and they are renowned for their distinctive Gnawa music. You will enjoy a private performance of this music, full of deep drumbeats and joyful dancing. In the late afternoon, we will check into a beautiful hotel near the dunes where you can swim in the pool, relax and enjoy a peaceful evening in the desert.
Day 3
Merzouga ➔ Rissani ➔ Tinghir ➔ Todra Gorge ➔ Dades Valley
After breakfast at your hotel, we will say goodbye to the Sahara dunes and drive towards the traditional town of Rissani. This town is home to the region’s largest local market. We will take a short walk through the bustling market streets, where you can observe the locals trading fresh fruit, sweet dates, colourful spices, and handmade crafts.
We will then continue our journey to Tinghir, an area renowned for its beautiful green oases and picturesque farming villages. Soon, we will arrive at the stunning Todra Gorge. This impressive canyon features straight red stone walls that soar hundreds of metres into the sky, with a cool mountain river flowing at the bottom.
You will have free time to safely walk alongside the river and take incredible photos of the giant cliffs. After enjoying a nice lunch near the canyon, we will continue our journey towards the Dades Valley. The route takes us past some extraordinary rock formations that locals call ‘monkey fingers’ for their unique shape. We will arrive at our lovely hotel in the Dades Valley just in time for dinner, ready for a peaceful night’s sleep surrounded by nature.
Day 4
Dades Valley ➔ Ouarzazate ➔ Ait Ben Haddou ➔ Marrakech
On our final day, we drive through the beautiful Valley of the Roses. In spring, the whole area is filled with the scent of fresh flowers, as the locals grow millions of pink roses to make rosewater and beauty oils. We will stop at a small local cooperative where you can see how these natural products are made. From there, we will drive along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs until we reach Ouarzazate.
Just outside the city lies the day’s absolute highlight: the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. UNESCO recognises this ancient village as a World Heritage Site. Made entirely of red mud and straw, it sits beautifully on the side of a hill. You will walk through its narrow streets and climb to the top to enjoy amazing views of the valley. After enjoying a delicious lunch near the kasbah, we will begin our journey over the High Atlas Mountains.
We will drive up the winding roads of the Tizi N’Tichka Pass, the highest road in Morocco. You will see stunning green valleys and tiny mountain villages built into the cliffs. Finally, we drive down the mountains and arrive in the bustling, vibrant city of Marrakech in time for an early evening arrival, bringing your unforgettable tour to a perfect close.
