Day 1

Merzouga ➔ Erg Chebbi Dunes ➔ Merzouga

Your magical morning will begin very early, around an hour before sunrise. The desert is completely quiet, the air is cool and fresh, and the sky is filled with soft stars. Your friendly local camel guide will meet you at your hotel or camp in Merzouga and help you safely mount your comfortable camel.

You will then begin your gentle ride away from the village and deep into the heart of the Erg Chebbi dunes, moving slowly through the soft sand. The silence of the early morning is incredibly beautiful. You will hear nothing except the soft footsteps of the camels and the gentle desert breeze. After about forty-five minutes of peaceful riding, we will reach the top of a high dune.

Your guide will help you dismount so you can sit comfortably in the cool sand. Here, we wait for the sun to rise. The magic slowly begins as the sun appears on the horizon, instantly changing the colours of the dunes to warm shades of orange, gold and pink. You will have plenty of free time to sit quietly, breathe in the fresh morning air and take wonderful photos and videos of the ever-changing light.

This is a very emotional and touching moment, which many travellers say is the best part of their entire holiday. Once the sun is fully up and the desert is glowing brightly, your guide will help you back onto your camel. We will then enjoy another peaceful ride back to Merzouga, where you will be returned safely in time for a warm breakfast and the perfect start to your day.
