Day 1
Marrakech ➔ Ouzoud Falls ➔ Marrakech
This exciting day trip starts in the morning, when your private driver will collect you from your hotel or riad in Marrakech. We will drive north out of the city, passing through flat, red earth plains that gradually give way to green, rolling hills. En route, you will see many small farming villages and large olive groves. The drive takes about three hours, but the beautiful scenery and comfortable vehicle ensure that the journey is enjoyable.
When we arrive at the top of the Ouzoud Falls, a friendly local nature guide will meet you to begin your walking tour. You will walk down beautiful dirt paths that wind along the side of the mountain. As you walk, you will catch your first glimpse of the impressive waterfalls plunging into the river below through the olive trees. You will also meet the friendly wild Barbary macaque monkeys that live in the area along the path. They are accustomed to visitors and love sitting in the trees while you take their picture.
At the bottom of the falls, you can enjoy a ride on a small, traditional boat which will take you very close to the splashing water. After enjoying the cool mist, it will be time for a wonderful lunch. You can sit in one of the lovely local restaurants with perfect views of the waterfalls. You can enjoy a fresh Moroccan meal while listening to the powerful sound of the water. In the afternoon, you will walk back up to the top to meet your driver for the journey back to Marrakech. Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of shoes should I wear for this trip?
You really need comfortable walking shoes or sports sneakers. The walking paths going down to the bottom of the waterfalls are made of dirt and rocks, so good shoes will keep you safe and make the walk very easy.
Are the monkeys safe to be around?
Yes, the wild monkeys at the waterfalls are very peaceful and used to seeing people every day. You can take great photos of them, but we always ask visitors to respect their space and only feed them the natural nuts provided by the local guides.
Is the walk up and down the mountain difficult?
The walk is a moderate activity. Going down is quite easy, but walking back up can take a little effort. However, your guide will walk at a slow and comfortable speed, and there are many small cafes along the path where you can stop, rest, and drink fresh orange juice.
